Using WS-FTP LE 5.08 for Windows 95 / 98 / ME / XP

This page will explain how to use WS-FTP LE 5.08 to upload your web site to Axion Internet's servers. If you do not have this program on your computer, you can get a copy it from Axion Internet servers by clicking here.

This version is a freeware program which means that it is free to use as long as you like and it will not expire. It is a very easy program to use and it possibly the most widely-used Windows FTP program.

Starting The Program

You will see this window overlapping the program when you first start WS-FTP. The screen will automatically come up every time you start the program.

  • Profile Name: This can be basically anything you want. It is meant to identify your website.
  • Host Name/Address: This must be pointed at our servers. You must enter members.axion.net into this space.
  • User ID: This must be the same as your Axion username.
  • Password: This must be the same as your Axion password.
  • Account: Leave this space here blank

If you have problems with this step please send email to webtech@axion.net

Final Setup Set - NEW

There is one minor configuration change that needs to be made to the program so that you will have no troubles connecting to the FTP server to transfer your files. After you have completed the above steps, click on the Advanced tab. Next fill out the screen as described in the example below. Make sure to change where it says username to your Axion Internet username.

After you have filled in the above information and are connected to  the Internet, all you need to do is click on OK. This should log you onto your web servers, this is the first step in placing your website online!

Logging on & transferring files

On the LEFT side of the screen under "Local System" you will need to locate your web site files. They should be in a folder you have created previously or a folder you created during Step Two.

Now that you can see your files under "Local System", you can start sending them over to the "Remote System". Click on any file or highlight all the files on the "Local System" side and then use the arrow pointing in the direction of the "Remote System". These are located between the two windows and look like the graphic below:

How Do I View The Files I Just Uploaded?

One of two different things will happen when you first go to view your page on the Internet. If you see only a directory and not your website you did not name your first page index.html or index.htm. The very first page you want people to see MUST be named either index.html or index.htm.

To view your website first load your web browser and in the Address or Location line type in the following address:

http://members.axion.net/~username   <- this is your Axion username
