Web Site Support Next Step

In Step Two, we will go over the basics of how to
create your first web page. This step is meant to only serve as a "basic
reference guide"
and is not a detailed detailed instruction manual. For those who
are interested, we do provide some suggestions for finding more detailed
web design instructions on the Internet.. In order to create your page, you
will need a number of different tools and skills. In
Step One, we have made
sure that you have an web creation program installed on your computer. No
matter which program you are using, the basic rules apply to them all.
The basics of web site
creation ( * IMPORTANT * )
There are a few basic rules of creating a web site that
you must follow in order for your page to work properly.
1. The first page -- or your title page -- must be called either index.html or index.htm.
People will have great difficulty in accessing your website if your first
page is not titled index.html or index.htm.
2. Second,
all your filenames of your pages
and all the filenames of your graphics should all be in lowercase. Axion's Members server is running on the UNIX platform which means all
filenames are case sensitive. Making filenames in lower case eliminates the worry of
conflicts.
3. The third rule (or, in this case, recommendation) of creating a
web page is to keep the sizes of your graphics to
a minimum. The larger the picture, the longer the page will take to load.

How do I get started?
Creating a web site is a time consuming
effort and there are so many different possibilities that we cannot go over
them all on this page. One trick you will learn as you become more experienced
in web design is to view the source code of
pages you like on the Internet.
If you are using Internet Explorer, you can view
the source code of other pages by clicking on 'View' and then 'Source'. If you are using Netscape 4.0 or higher, you can find the
source under 'View' and then 'Page Source'.
