Bruce Byfield, Journalist and Writer

Bruce ByfieldI am a computer journalist, primarily for Linux.com (formerly the Open Source Technology Group), a division of SourceForge (formly VA Software), where I am a contributing editor. SourceForge runs a collection of web sites that provide news and services to the free and open source software communities. Together, the sites receive over 18 million unique hits per month.

I publish mainly on Linux.com, "the enterprise Linux resource," and IT Manager's Journal. Sometimes, my work is linked on Slashdot, although it's run independently of the sites I usually publish on. My record is 5 Slashdotted stories in one month, a record I continually try to improve on.

Other places I have published include Datamation, Techwr-l, and in Maximum Linux and The New Internationalist.

You can see some comments about my writing on my Kudos and Abuse page.

When not committing journalism, I work on other editorial and writing projects, and on designing and teaching live and e-learning courses.

In the past, I have been a university English instructor, a technical writer, a product manager, a director of marketing and communications, a developmental editor, and a consultant in communications, marketing, and design.

Although I am lucky enough to have enough regular work to earn my living as a full-time writer, I am always looking for interesting new projects. If you would like to talk to me about one, please click the Contact page.
