Bradner Llamas
Our  Focus  as  Llama  Breeders

At  Bradner  Llamas  our  focus  is to raise sound llamas,
with  good conformation,  that are people friendly,
and are a source for fine fiber

The following is of what we mean by this statement:

Soundness  refers to the overall health of the animal.
A sound animal should be strong and free from disease, illness, worms, parasites,
             and any injuries.

Conformation  refers to the overall structure of the animal and is the most important
consideration when purchasing your llama.  Some of the features that are important
are the set of the feet and legs, the length and straightness of the back, and the
proportions of the back, neck, and back legs.  Other things to look for are the stature
of the animal, the weight/thickness of the fiber, the presence of the animal,  etc.

When buying your animal(s), good conformation should be your main focus.

It is easy to fall in love with a cute llama, one that is your favorite color, with perfect
banana ears, etc. but good conformation should really be your prime deciding factor.
When buying your first llama, it would be wise to have a more knowledgeable person
help you confirm the quality of the animal you wish to buy.   If this is not possible,
you should have a basic understanding of the factors that help make up “good
conformation”.  You can read about these factors in several of the books listed in
our links and information page.                                                                              (Links)

People Friendly  llamas are also a priority of ours at Bradner llamas.  We visited some farms
where the llamas were somewhat wild, like a herd of deer.   We feel that it is important
to be able to easily catch and halter your animal,  to be able to go for walks with your
animal,  be able to comfortably handle and brush your animal, and to be able to pick
up its feet for nail trimming, etc.   We feel it is important especially for new llama owners
to purchase an animal that is trained and is easy to work with.

Fine Fiber is our final objective. We try to produce animals with good fiber.  Maureen is
interested in the fiber aspects of llamas and has taken up spinning and felting. Good
fiber is not important to everyone. Some people are more interested in guard llamas,
packing, hiking, or carting, etc.  but for us at Bradner Llamas,  fiber is one of our
             priorities.                                                                                                           (Fiber)
