AARON WEBSTER CO-OP PET
POLICY
As
approved by General Membership on July 30, 2002
Statement
of Intent: The
Co-op recognizes the wish of some members to have pets in the Co-op, and we
also recognize that some pets may disturb other members. In an attempt to minimize any disturbances
our Pet Policy stresses owner responsibility for pets.
1.
No
policy herein shall supersede any current City of Vancouver by-law, abridged
copy attached.
2.
Members are allowed a
maximum of two four-footed pets as allowed by the CoV by-law.
3.
Deceased
pets can be replaced but only in compliance with the post-occupancy maximums
and policies
4.
Animals
defined by the Co-op as “vicious” will not be allowed in the Co-op
5.
Exotic
pets are not permitted in the Co-op
6.
Any
pet limited to a cage of any type shall not count as one of the two.
7.
No
pet shall be out overnight.
8.
All
pets to be housed within the owner’s unit and not on balconies or walkways
9.
The
owners are responsible for any damage caused by their pets such as digging,
excessive noise, defecation on common property, etc.
10.
The
owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
11.
Pets
are permitted within common indoor areas –laundry, storage, etc.—provided they
are leashed or attended. Guide dogs and
working animals excepted.
12.
All
cats and dogs to be spayed and / or neutered at an appropriate age, with a
certificate provided from a veterinarian or the SPCA.
13.
Cats
and dogs must wear a name tag indicating owner’s unit #.
14.
Dogs
must be on a leash or attended at all times while outside of the unit.
15.
All
registered pet owners required to sign a separate Pet Agreement which becomes
an addendum to Occupancy Agreement.
16.
Upon
move-out pet owners are required to fumigate their suite.
17.
Visiting
pet owners required to abide by the Co-op pet policy.
18.
Failure
to abide by any of the above shall result in a grievance against the offending
member which shall be adjudicated according to the Co-op’s grievance procedure
and may result in the member being asked to give up their pet or, ultimately,
move out.
1. Any member wishing to
register a pet shall do so at time of interview. At this time the Co-op will evaluate whether the proposed pet is
is deemed “vicious”.
2. A member already living in
the Co-op wishing to get or replace a pet should first contact the Pet
Committee to see if maximums have been reached and whether the proposed pet is
deemed “vicious”.
3. Once a pet has been acquired
the member must register it.
4. Any member who loses or
gives up a pet should notify the Pet Committee.
5. Problems will be handled as
follows:
a.
Neighbour
with complaint talks with pet owner.
b. If problem still unresolved
the complainant contacts the Pet Committee in writing who will evaluate the
complaint and contact the pet owner if the Committee agrees an offence has
occurred.
c.
If
problem still unresolved the Pet Committee will contact the Board of Directors
who will evaluate the situation and will insist that the pet owner resolve the
problem to comply with this Policy;
further, it may result in the Member being asked to give up the pet or
ultimately, being asked to move out.
