ABOUT AARON WEBSTER HOUSING CO-OP

 

Aaron Webster Housing Co-operative was completed in 1987.  We are a culturally-diverse family-oriented group of people with Members from around the world.

 

The Vancouver East Cultural Centre, Britannia Community Centre, Templeton swimming pool and running track, and a wide selection of shopping and services, many of them located on popular Commercial Drive, are all within walking distance.  Bus routes to downtown, Burnaby,  the Skytrain and points further are only a block away.

 

The four storey building complex is comprised of thirty-one 1, 2 and 3 bedroom suites.  Four of the 2 bedroom suites are completely wheelchair accessible.

 

Features of the building include intercom, underground parking, shared laundry facilities and a children’s play area.  A common room is available for the use of Co-op Members.


 

PARTICIPATION

 

Membership in a Co-op offers a sense of community generally not found in regular apartment buildings.  Since the Co-op is run by the Members, residents are able to actively participate in the decision making.  There’s no landlord --we’re it!  We are all responsible for the way things operate.

 

The structure of the Co-op consists of a Board of Directors, various Committees and the General Membership.  The Board (Members nominated and elected annually by the Membership) meets monthly to set the goals and objectives of the Co-op, as well as to make decisions based on policy approved by the General Membership.The Board also liases with the various Committees.

 

These include the Maintenance, Finance, Membership, Kids and Gardening & Grounds Committees, among others.  Committees carry out the day-to-day as well as the long range tasks that enable the Co-op to operate.  For example, Membership interviews prospective applicants, Finance researches and makes recommendations over money matters, while Maintenance oversees general building and apartment maintenance.

 

Individual Members are expected to attend General Meetings, as well as regularly participate on the Committee of their choice.  Additionally, Members are legally responsible for adhering to the terms of the Occupancy and the Participation Agreements signed before move-in.


 

ABOUT THE SUITES

 

Each individual apartment is complete with carpeting, blinds, refrigerator and stove.  Two units have dishwashers, the others have microwave ovens.

 

Pets are welcome, within the guidelines of our Pet Policy.

 

Share Purchase amounts, refunded without interest, minus any funds owed to the Co-op after move out, are as follows:

      1 bedroom       575 - 633 sq.ft.      $1600

      2 bedroom       758 - 870 sq.ft.      $1900

      3 bedroom       980 sq.ft.                $2200

 

Housing Charges are currently:

      1 bedroom                           $701 / month

      2 bedroom                           $852 / month

      3 bedroom                           $966 / month

 

Charges are reviewed annually, with any changes approved by vote of the Membership.

 

Associate Membership for each additional Member in a suite (over 19 years old) is a refundable $10.

 

There is a refundable deposit for the underground parking remote control.

 

There is also a front door remote control available for handicapped Members.
