KLINGON D5 'War' CRUISER
The Klingon Deep Space Fleet commissioned a special study on Stardate: 2696 to determine if the D7 class could be made more efficient by the introduction of new technology, such as anti-drones. Of the various proposals, the one from Kozenko Design Bureau (known by their designation KDB-1104) was the most interesting and the most radical.
Smaller and easier to build than the D7, the KDB-1104 was ingenious in the manner of the changes made. Frontal armament was reduced by one phaser, but the improved Ph-1's were used [Ph-1's are similar to Federation Main Phasers used on Class I starships]. The Disruptor bolts were given a wider arc of fire. The Ubitron Interface Module was a standard feature. The 'waist' Ph-2's were declared superfluous (as far as the defensive purposes originally envisioned) and reduced to Ph-3's for drone defense only. The ship did not receive the B-refit; equivalent improvements were a part of the original design. A limited AEGIS rig was installed to control the ADD's and Ph-3's. The anti-drones held 12 rounds each (vice the 5 in Federation units). The D5 can fire off drones from each rack continuously, while re-loading operations are conducted on the parallel rack. As D6- and D7-class ships would remain in service for some time, the "Marine Landing Force" and most of the transporters carried by that class were dispensed with. As a cost-saving move, the sensor-scanner suite was reduced, eliminating the redundant functions. While this meant the loss of fire control after damage, study of prior engagements indicated that ships sustaining that amount of damage either disengaged or were destroyed anyway.
